Is Social Media a Waste of Time?
Is a social media presence really that important to your business’ bottom line? Is social media a waste of time? Hopefully by now, you have figured out that social media is good for your business. So, if you haven’t already, it’s time to go social.
Why? There Are So Many Reasons
It’s true that a social media account will not lead to an overnight success for your business. However, it is crucial. Just how crucial? We are seeing television commercials asking us to go on their social network and “like” their page, or “Join us on Facebook.” This is an important heads up to you and I. Why? If those using television advertising see advantages of having a social media presence and advertising it, it’s big.
Another reason that social media has taken off as it has is that people don’t like being sold to. Proof positive? Many just walk out during TV commercials or use their TiVo and DVR to skip them. Social media is quickly becoming the way to reach customers.
Using social media, you can speak of your company but without the sales pitch. Personally, I don’t care for a sales pitch, so I don’t like to use these tactics with my clients or potential clients. You can simply let people know what services you offer, and they can make an informed choice.
Reach Those You Might Not Find Otherwise
SMM is a great way to reach those you might not have reached otherwise. Have you checked your inbox to see that someone has connected with you on Twitter? You’re not alone. These are people who might not have otherwise found you.
Another advantage is that you can listen to what your clients are saying. With social media status updates, you can speak directly to your customers, and they feel that they can speak directly to you. This is, of course, if you update your Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn accounts regularly.
It’s Not All About You
To be successful, you must interact with others. Shameless self-promotion will turn your followers away. Therefore, it’s important to retweet, interact, and follow your followers. They won’t feel that it’s all about you (and it isn’t) and will feel supported. Is social media a waste of time? If you support your followers, it will not be a huge waste of time, but time well spent.
The main purpose of Social Media is to connect with people. Encourage your customers to speak up. If they have a problem that they ask you about, tell them to feel free to post it to Facebook or Twitter.
