Online Project Management Tools Your Virtual Assistant Uses[break][/break]
As a virtual administrative assistant, I have used many project management tools. Some I have loved and some, well, not so much. It’s not surprising to me when I speak with a client and find that they use a different project management system than I currently use. More importantly, all project management systems can be easily figured out with a few simple instructions. Therefore, there is no reason for panic when someone says, “Do you use…..?”
Some Are Simple Some Take a Bit More Time
It really depends on what you’re looking for when searching for a project management system. If you are looking for something simple, there are a number of tools available to fit your needs. If you are looking for something with time tracking tools built into their systems, you can easily find this as well. What I have found regarding project management tools is simple. The more bells and whistles, the more time it will take to figure it out. In the end, though, if you need time tracking as a part of your project management, the time it takes to learn it will be well worth the time spent.
The More Simple Project Management Systems
Your more simple project management tools allow you to assign tasks to members of your team. When you have assigned the project, they will be notified of the details and the due date. This list could be much larger if I were to mention every system that I have used. However, I will just mention my two favorite simple programs.
♦ Asana: This is my favorite if you are looking for a simple system that is fairly easy to figure out. It’s interface is attractive and user friendly. Currently, Asana is free for teams of up to 30 members.
♦ Basecamp: Many virtual assistants started out using Basecamp and many still use this system. For myself, I have used it for more than one client and found it very easy to learn. It offers to-do lists, file sharing, time tracking, and much more. However, the more features you use, the more it will cost.
Takes a Bit More Time But Well Worth It
Those that took more time to learn have many more features than the simpler programs. They include:
♦ ActiveCollab: I am currently learning this program. While it takes a bit more time to learn, there is so much more that the program offers. It comes highly recommended by those who use it.
♦TrackMyHours: I like this web based project management system simply because I love the desktop app. You can track your hours from your desktop.
♦ Ace Project: I like this program, though you will find that it takes more time to learn. As I have mentioned, when a program offers more to their users, it will take more time to learn.
♦ Zoho: I am new to Zoho but am using it with a new client who is trying it out as well. Again, it has many features. Those who love it swear by it. I’m still forming an opinion, to be honest.
Whichever program you use, take the time to use project management tools. They help you to plan, organize, and manage your projects. Why is this so important? Without any forethought and planning, your project will quickly fail. You and your clients deserve better than that.
