As their business becomes the success that they had hoped for, many business owners find themselves needing to find help with their admin tasks. More and more they are looking at virtual assistants as a possible solution. When choosing your ideal virtual assistant, what qualities should you look for?
Are You a Good Fit?
Many will tell you that it’s crucial to consider if you are the perfect fit for each other. As this field becomes more and more popular, and it is growing by leaps and bounds, you will find that there are countless virtual assistants to choose from. So start with their niche.
Are you looking for a real estate virtual assistant, then look for a REVA. They specialize in working with busy real estate agents. Are you considering hiring a social media specialist, then search for a social media virtual assistant. If you’re looking for an accountant, there’s a virtual assistant for you.
I recently read a blog post that posed questions to ask your virtual assistant, but would have to respectfully disagree with this post. Ask questions that show you to be as professional as your virtual assistant. Asking if they have children is not appropriate. Thought my daughter is already grown, I feel that this is not a fair question. To be honest, I have found many capable and professional virtual assistants with small children at home.
Appropriate questions to ask your ideal virtual assistant include:
♦ How much experience do you have as an administrative assistant?
♦ How can you be reached, and if you’re busy with another client, how long will it take you to return a call or email?
♦ Do you charge by the minute or in 15 minute increments?
♦ Do you charge by the hour, by the package, or both?
♦ How long have you been a virtual assistant?
As real estate virtual assistants, I have found that many of my clients need work done quickly with fast turn-around times. For this reason, I have another REVA that I respect who is prepared to help in these situations. When choosing your ideal virtual assistant, ask them how quickly they can get to a task when you assign it. At the same time, remember that they have other clients and want to offer the same great customer service to them. Nine times out of ten, this is not a problem, as least with my clients.
Possibly the most important of these three is to make sure that the two of you are a good fit. This is where the free consultation is comes in. Listen, speak and clarify and you likely will be happy that you have chosen your ideal virtual assistant.
